M U S I CPropellor - Peter Stuart (published chaosmusic.com, August 2003)Ex-Dog's Eye View frontman Peter Stuart delivers a delicious slice of guitar-driven pop with his first solo effort, Propellor. Opening track 'Take Me Back' sets the tone for the album with its hool-laden chorus and modern take on love. Whether it's that heady uncertainty of newfound romance in 'Vertigo' or the bittersweet pain of losing it in 'With My Heart in Your Hands', Stuart delivers his musings with clever lyrics encased in a crunchy melodic coating. A host of famous friends have lent their musical stylings to the recording, with members of the Counting Crows and Moon Zappa all making appearances. Adam Duritz's distinctive earthy vocals area delightful compliment to standout track 'Propellor Girl', while a host of violins add the perfect touch of melancholy to 'Bring You Back', a track penned in remembrance of the singer's late father. Propellor is one of those rare albums - immediately appealing, yet fresh and vibrant long after the CD slick has been dog-eared with use. (c) 2006 Lauren Katulka |
